AAC&U officers and staff
regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally
the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools
through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in
more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak
on the value of liberal education at various media and public
affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the
membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives.

Carol Geary Schneider, AAC&U president, will speak at Give Students a Compass, a California convening of educators and grantmakers hosted by the California State University System and sponsored by Carnegie Corporation of New York and State Farm Insurance Companies, November 3-4, on the campus of California State University-Dominguez Hills. She will speak about inclusive excellence, general education, and student success. Schneider will also give the luncheon keynote address at the Council for the Advancement of Standards Annual Symposium on November 16 in Washington, DC. Her address is titled, “Organizing Assessment to Foster Students’ Best Work.” On November 18, Schneider will give the opening address at a colloquium to honor the outgoing president of the Teagle Foundation, W. Robert Connor, and the work of the foundation.
Susan Albertine, AAC&U senior director of LEAP state initiatives,visited Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina, on October 23, 2009, to lead a faculty and student workshop on integrative public health studies.
Alma R. Clayton-Pedersen, AAC&U vice president for education and institutional renewal, served as a panel member for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges reaccreditation review of Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, on October 6-8.
Debra Humphreys, AAC&U vice president for communications and public affairs, gave a presentation on LEAP to faculty at County College of Morris in Randolph, New Jersey, on October 15, 2009. Her presentation was titled, “A New Vision for Learning and New Models for Accountability as a Nation Goes to College.” On November 5, Humphreys will be the featured speaker at the ACPA (College Student Educators International) Senior Student Affairs Officers Symposium in Washington, DC. She will speak on the topic, what is liberal education?
Terrel Rhodes, AAC&U vice president for quality, curriculum, and assessment, delivered a speech titled, “Show me the Learning: Valid Assessment of Student Learning” at the 2009 Assessment Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 26. The Assessment Institute in Indianapolis is the nation's oldest and largest event focused exclusively on outcomes assessment in higher education.
