AAC&U officers and staff
regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally
the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools
through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in
more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak
on the value of liberal education at various media and public
affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the
membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives.

Carol Geary Schneider, AAC&U president, will travel to Elon University in Elon, North Carolina, August 18-19, 2009, to participate in a meeting for the Next Generation of Creative Leaders in Higher Education. Schneider will meet with a group of faculty and administrators to think about and discuss questions in higher education today. On August 24-25, Schneider will travel to Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, to give the keynote address at Quinnipiac’s Faculty Collaborative for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. She will also meet with Quinnipiac administrators, faculty, and students while on campus.
Susan Albertine, AAC&U senior director of LEAP State Initiatives, traveled to Tucson, Arizona, on June 25 to deliver a keynote address to the Association of Departments of Foreign Languages (ADFL) department chairs’ Summer Seminar West. Albertine’s talk was titled, “Liberal Education for the 21st Century and Modern Language Study.” On June 9-10, Albertine and AAC&U Senior Vice President Caryn Musil attended a meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, of Mobilizing STEM Education for a Sustainable Future, a project for which they serve as critical advisers.
Alma R. Clayton-Pedersen, AAC&U vice president for education and institutional renewal, will give remarks at an Inclusive Excellence event for the University of Wisconsin system schools on August 18-20. On August 25, Clayton-Pedersen will give a keynote address at Benedictine University’s faculty convocation in
Lisle, Illinois. She will discuss achieving the learning outcomes essential for the twenty-first century.
Debra Humphreys, AAC&U vice president for communications and public affairs, gave a presentation titled “The Economic Value of Liberal Education: Making the Case in Today’s World” at a senior staff retreat at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, on July 23.
Caryn McTighe Musil, AAC&U senior vice president for Diversity, Equity, and Global Initiatives, and Patricia Lowrie, AAC&U senior fellow, presented a workshop on June 12 at the National Council for Research on Women’s Annual Conference at the City University of New York. The workshop, titled “Crafting Multicultural Alliances: Defying the Norms,” was part of the AAC&U-affiliated Campus Women Lead project.
