AAC&U officers and staff regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak on the value of liberal education at various media and public affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives. We look forward to seeing you the next time we are on your campus.

AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider visited Portland State University on September 20, where she spoke at an undergraduate education symposium. On October 11, Schneider will travel to Central Missouri University, where she will speak to the faculty of the school of arts and sciences and hold a discussion session with students about liberal education and employer expectations.

Debra Humphreys, AAC&U's vice president for communication and public affairs will deliver the keynote address, “Toward Effectiveness in a Multicultural World” and a follow-up faculty workshop at the Michael Tilford Diversity and Multiculturalism State Conference on October 5 at Wichita State University. She will also deliver the opening address on “Liberal Education and the Learning Students Need Now” at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh Teaching and Learning Summit on October 8.

Terrel L. Rhodes, AAC&U’s vice president for quality, curriculum and assessment, conducted a faculty retreat workshop at Albright College August 21 and 22 on proposed general education reform structures developed by a faculty steering committee. The structures were based on a set of student learning outcomes already adopted by the faculty, and reflected the essential learning outcomes of AAC&U’s LEAP report, College Learning for the New Global Century. On September 19-21, Rhodes, along with AAC&U president Carol Geary Schneider, met with representatives from the Oregon University System administration, campus provosts and OUS Board members, and community college representatives to discuss planning and actions within the state of Oregon surrounding LEAP initiatives.

Alma Clayton-Pedersen, AAC&U vice president of education and institutional renewal, attended a mini-conference sponsored by the Foundation Center titled “Leaders for the Future: Strengthening the Nonprofit Workforce” on September 21 in Washington, DC. On October 24, Clayton-Pedersen will conduct a professional development workshop on making excellence inclusive with Goucher College (Baltimore, MD) faculty and staff.
