AAC&U officers and staff regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak on the value of liberal education at various media and public affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives. We look forward to seeing you the next time we are on your campus.

AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider traveled to Wooster, Ohio, on May 15 to deliver the College of Wooster’s commencement address. Her speech, "Liberal Education: Employers' Views and Yours," is available online. President Schneider and other AAC&U leaders met with the Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP) National Leadership Council in Boston on June 1 and in Washington, DC, on June 13. At these meetings, the council discussed the LEAP campaign's Principles of Excellence for Student Learning in College, which will be released later in 2006.

AAC&U Senior Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Global Initiatives Caryn McTighe Musil co-facilitated a series of plenaries and panels focused on diversity, civic engagement, and global issues with AAC&U Senior Fellow Elizabeth Minnich at the Collegiate Global Summit. The summit was held in conjunction with the Bonner Foundation’s Student Leadership Institute at Defiance College in Ohio from May 31 to June 2. From June 3 to 5, Musil attended a working meeting in Seattle to finalize details for Campus Women Lead’s two-day campus-based workshops. These workshops, which are designed to mobilize women’s leadership for inclusive excellence, were piloted at the University of Virginia in March 2006; a January 2007 workshop will be offered at the University of Michigan.

AAC&U Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs Debra Humphreys will present the keynote address at the annual meeting of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges on “Making the Case for Public Liberal Arts.” The meeting will be held June 23–26 at Georgia College and State University.

AAC&U Senior Fellow Lee Knefelkamp discussed AAC&U’s LEAP vision and the themes of Greater Expectations with faculty and administrators at a number of campuses last month. She spoke at the CUNY System’s conference on enrollment management on May 3, and on May 10 she spoke at the University of Michigan’s annual conference on academic advising. On May 17, she led a daylong faculty workshop on student learning styles and improving undergraduate teaching at Michigan State University. From May 24 to 26, she participated in faculty workshops that focused on core courses in general education at the College of St. Catherine.
