AAC&U officers and staff regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak on the value of liberal education at various media and public affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives. We look forward to seeing you the next time we are on your campus.

AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider attended the Wye Presidents’ Seminar July 21–23. The seminar is cosponsored by the Aspen Institute and AAC&U and is held at the Aspen Wye River Conference Center in Maryland. Twenty college and university presidents participated in this year’s seminar, which focused on global values and leadership. The Wye Faculty Seminar, also cosponsored by AAC&U, was held July 22–28. On August 14, President Schneider will speak at an annual faculty–staff planning conference at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and on August 17, she will speak at the faculty and staff convocation at North Georgia College and State University.

AAC&U Senior Vice President Caryn McTighe Musil spoke on behalf of the higher education community at the May 30 memorial service for Edgar F. Beckham at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She led a three-day faculty development workshop titled "Educating for a World Lived in Common” at Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, June 12–14. The workshop was sponsored by the Lumina Foundation. On June 20, Musil addressed the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC) Commission on Human Resources and Social Change at its annual summer meeting. Her address, “Discovering the Streets Where We Live: Educating for Inclusive Excellence,” built upon the report produced by the joint task force on diversity of NASULGC and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, Now Is the Time: Meeting the Challenge for a Diverse Academy.

AAC&U Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs Debra Humphreys is presenting and facilitating workshops on diversity and general education at the 2006 General Education Symposium at the University of Arkansas–Fayetteville August 8–10. Humphreys will speak on the educational impact of campus diversity and academic freedom, and lead a workshop on models that integrate diversity into general education programs.
