AAC&U officers and staff
regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally
the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools
through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in
more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak
on the value of liberal education at various media and public
affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the
membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives.
We look forward to seeing you the next time we are on your
campus.
AAC&U Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Global Initiatives Caryn McTighe Musil traveled to Strasbourg, France, on March 6 and 7 as part of a U.S. delegation to the Council of Europe to plan the final details of a June forum on higher education and democracy. On March 13 and 14, she traveled to the University of Virginia, where she served as a consultant to assess the pilot version of the Campus Women Lead for Inclusive Excellence project.
AAC&U Director of Global Initiatives Kevin Hovland gave a special report on AAC&U's global projects as part of Westmont College's sixth annual "Conversation on the Liberal Arts." This year's conversation took place on February 17 and 18 and focused on the need for increased global awareness in undergraduate education.
Representatives of AAC&U’s Technology Committee—Michelle Hannahs, Karen Kalla, Daniel Phoenix Singh, and Noreen O’Connor—visited the Annandale campus of new AAC&U member Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) on March 30. They met with Steven G. Sachs, NVCC's vice president of instructional and information technology. Sachs discussed the most recent NVCC technology plan as well as the history of technology usage on NVCC campuses, the uses of technology for classroom and distance learning, and the increasing incidence of “blended learning” courses that combine classroom and online coursework. He also demonstrated NVCC’s newest technology adoptions, the live Virtual Web Classroom and the digital whiteboard.
