AAC&U's Board Chair Foregrounds Liberal Education and Inclusive Excellence in Inaugural Events

In a featured event at the inauguration of AAC&U Board Chair Ronald A. Crutcher as president of Wheaton College, campus and community participants discussed the role of diversity in today's understanding of educational excellence. Speakers at the symposium included AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider, AAC&U Board Member and Spelman College President Beverly Daniel Tatum, Harvard University's Lani Guinier, and the University of Michigan's Lester Monts. AAC&U Announces Participants in 2005 Summer Institutes

AAC&U has selected teams from more than fifty colleges and universities to participate in its two summer institutes. From May 20 to 25, faculty and administrators from thirty-one campuses will attend the Institute on General Education. This year's institute will again be held on the campus of Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. Teams from twenty-eight campuses will attend this year's Greater Expectations Institute on Campus Leadership for Student Engagement, Inclusion, and Achievement. The Greater Expectations Institute will be held June 22-26 in Burlington, Vermont. AAC&U Invites Nominations for Ness Book Award

AAC&U invites nominations for the 2006 Frederic W. Ness Book Award. This award is given annually to recognize a book that contributes to the understanding and improvement of liberal education. The award, which includes a prize of $2,000, is a mark of distinction for both authors and publishers and is presented at AAC&U's annual meeting. "Integrative Learning and Electronic Portfolios" Featured Topic of May Webcast

"Integrative Learning and Electronic Portfolios," the last in a series of Webcasts about technology and general education, will take place on May 12 at 1 p.m. EST. The series, which is being presented by AAC&U and the TLT Group, addresses whether advances in the uses of computing and the Internet have implications for what students should learn in college and whether computing creates new opportunities for improving general education.
