March 2005

AAC&U officers and staff regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak on the value of liberal education at various media and public affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives. We look forward to seeing you the next time we are on your campus.

AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider will participate in the 68th annual meeting of the Southern University Conference from March 11 to 13. She will speak on liberal education in the public sphere to a gathering of about twenty-five public university and private college presidents.

Debra Humphreys, AAC&U vice president for communications and public affairs, will give a plenary presentation on student attitudes toward liberal education and key college learning outcomes at a deans of arts and sciences meeting sponsored by the University of Wisconsin (UW) system. In the presentation, Humphreys will present findings from AAC&U’s recent focus groups and will discuss AAC&U’s new campaign, Liberal Education and America’s Promise: Excellence for Everyone as a Nation Goes to College (LEAP). This meeting is part of a new collaboration between the LEAP campaign and The Currency of the Liberal Arts, an initiative of the UW system.
