March 2004

AAC&U officers and staff regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak on the value of liberal education at various media and public affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives. We look forward to seeing you the next time we are on your campus.

On February 3-5, Senior Fellow Barbara A. Hill traveled to Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, to be the keynote speaker on "Reframing Liberal Education: The Greater Expectations Approach" at a faculty development day. She also consulted with the President's Council, the Deans of the Schools, the Student Affairs Staff, various curricular task forces and governance committees, and a women's caucus. On March 10, Dr. Hill will be the AAC&U speaker at "Liberal Education and the Public Good: An Open Forum," a conference jointly sponsored by the Brooklyn campuses of Long Island University and St. Joseph's College.

On March 4, Andrea Leskes, Vice President for Education and Quality Initiatives, will travel to Chicago, where she will speak about Greater Expectations during Northeastern Illinois University's "University Day." On March 29, she will speak at a joint meeting of Frederick Community College and the Frederick County (Maryland) Public Schools about better aligning high school and college curricula.

AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider will travel to the AAHE "Learning to Change" conference in San Diego on April 1-3, 2004, where she will be a panelist on "Transforming Accountability."
