December 2003

AAC&U officers and staff regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in more informal gatherings. AAC&U staff also regularly speak on the value of liberal education at various media and public affairs events. These meetings are an opportunity for the membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's initiatives. We look forward to seeing you the next time we are on your campus.

On October 27, Alma Clayton-Pedersen, vice president for education and institutional renewal at AAC&U, attended a session sponsored by the National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education (NCCI), an organization devoted to “advancing excellence through effective organizational practices.” The goal of this meeting was to bring together NCCI’s sixty member institutions to explore how associations might work together for greater institutional effectiveness. On December 2-3, President Carol Geary Schneider visited Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, to participate in a meeting of the Renewal Commission for Antioch College, which was established earlier this year by the Board of Trustees of Antioch University to develop a plan, strategy and timetable for the renewal of the college.
