AAC&U officers and staff
regularly travel throughout the country, and occasionally
the world, to speak and consult at AAC&U member schools
through seminars, institutes, and workshops as well as in
more informal gatherings. These meetings are an opportunity
for the membership to influence the direction of AAC&U's
initiatives. We look forward to seeing you the next time we
are on your campus.
Andrea Leskes,
AAC&U vice president for education and quality initiatives,
gave a plenary presentation on "General Education: An
Overview at the Turn of the 21st Century" Sept 2nd at
Marietta College, in Marietta Ohio. She also consulted with
the general education curriculum committee and the entire
faculty about their on-going examination of general education
on campus. Marietta College sent a team to the Asheville Institute
on General Education in June 2001.
President Carol Geary
Schneider recently returned from a presentation on "Contemporary
Goals for Undergraduate Learning" at a conference of
Minnesota State Colleges & Universities on the value of
liberal education. On October 2, President Schneider
delivered a keynote entitled "Diversity as a Catalyst
for Educational Excellence" at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell's
seventh Diversity Symposium.
Debra
Humphreys, vice president for communications and public
affairs, participated in a segment about the pros and cons
of online learning on the CNN Financial News program,
Market Call. Humphreys and Andrew Rosen, chief operating
officer of Kaplan, Inc. were both interviewed on August 27th
in the segment by CNNfn Anchor, Rhonda Schaffler.
