Shared Futures: Global Learning and Social Responsibility
Liberal Arts Colleges and Global Learning
Lasting from 2005 to 2006, Liberal Arts Colleges and Global Learning was a research project investigating how liberal arts colleges address global preparation and democratic engagement for their students. This project was funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Through Liberal Arts Colleges and Global Learning, AAC&U staff identified liberal arts colleges that have assumed leadership in addressing global issues on their campuses in a variety of ways. By exploring the distinctive terrain of liberal arts colleges, we found promising practices and sources of direction for further national work.
The findings of the project are available in a monograph, Shared Futures: Global Learning and Liberal Education, and have served as a foundation for the General Education for Global Learning project. Also see Assessing Global Learning, a publication that uses the findings of this study to provide an outline for embedding global learning opportunities throughout the program of study.
