Shared Futures: Global Learning and Social Responsibility

Previous Projects

The current Shared Futures project, General Education for Global Learning, has grown out of the development and success of previous activities in the Shared Futures initiative.

Funded Projects

Liberal Education and Global Citizenship: The Arts of Democracy (2002-2006)
The first funded project in the Shared Futures initiative aimed to cultivate global knowledge and engagement among students and faculty through curriculum development in the undergraduate majors. It was supported by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education and culminated in the publication of two monographs, Shared Futures: Global Learning and Liberal Education and Assessing Global Learning.
More information is available here.

Liberal Arts Colleges and Global Learning (2002-2003)
In an effort to further develop the Shared Futures initiative, the AAC&U staff undertook a research project to identify best practices in global education among liberal arts institutions. The project was funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
