LEAP Public Forums
The LEAP initiative is convening a series of invitational forums designed to draw public and campus attention to the LEAP vision for liberal education in the twenty-first century. The forums are designed to engage academics, business leaders, K-12 educators, policy makers, and community leaders with the essential learning outcomes and high-impact education practices identified in the LEAP initiative. The programs draw on the innovative work of campuses, and also call upon key stakeholders to provide leadership for carrying action agendas forward in specific state and regional contexts.
LEAP Public Forums are supported by generous grants from The Charles Engelhard Foundation, the John Templeton Foundation, the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, and by contributions from participating and hosting institutions.
Purposes
To turn a spotlight on the kinds of college learning American students will need to meet twenty-first-century challenges—economic, civic, global, personal;
To underscore the emerging consensus between educators and employers on the essential outcomes of a good college education;
To highlight changes campuses already are making in the curriculum and co-curriculum that respond to these new priorities;
To engage public champions who will help build knowledge of and provide support for these essential outcomes and these new practices in higher education—among business leaders, policy makers and school reformers and leaders.
Desired Outcomes
New commitments from campuses to communicate more intentionally with their students, faculty, and key stakeholders about the goals, purposes and learning outcomes of college education in the twenty-first century.
New commitments from business and policy leaders to advance and give priority to the essential learning outcomes and practices that advance those outcomes.
New commitments from higher education leaders, school leaders, and civic leaders to act collaboratively to foster essential learning outcomes across the entire educational continuum.
